5 Closet Tips for Men

Many organizing tips for keeping a neat closet often are directed at women but men need a well-designed and organized space, too.

  1. All closets look best with identical hangers. For men, plain, wooden hangers are my suggestion. They’re also easier on clothing. But sweaters? They’ll become misshapen. Instead, he should plan to stack his sweaters on built-in shelving.
  2. Many closets offer a space for long-hanging items, like formal dresses or coats.

Hidden Vertical Space Solutions

A home’s storage is a valuable commodity, but when there isn’t enough for organizing, I get creative and explore vertical space.

  • Often enough, we have extra room in our linen closet: Is there a top shelf in yours with some empty space? That’s a wonderful area for additional shelving.
  • When organizing for a client, I sometimes need to reach for unique solutions: Ever see a guitar mount stand that neatly holds a guitar upright?

Getting a New Dog? Get Organized First!

Before you bring your new doggie home, take some time to get organized.

  • The leash, collar and waste disposal bags. Choose an area of your home where your pet’s leash can live. Hopefully you’ve got some space in the top of a closet or a storage area shelf, but if leaving your dog’s leash by the back door works better for you, then you’ll need a trip to your local hardware store or Home Depot for a sturdy hook or two.

Organizing your Child for Camp

Every summer throngs of school-age children leave home – for camp.

If they leave for one week or entire summer, they usually need the same amount of stuff, from bathing suits to extra socks.

I’ve done my share of camp packing and organizing. Here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. Please don’t bother with the camp labels. It’s true, labels are music to an organizer’s ears, but the fact is, you just need the sharpie pen.
